West Coast put one hand on a finals spot with a spirited win in the 20th Western Derby on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The Eagles' inaccuracy at times contributed to Freo staying within touch, but their dominance over the Dockers' midfield saw them retain control of the match throughout. Chad Fletcher amassed 38 possessions to win his second Glendinning Medal, with good assistance from fellow midfielders Chris Judd, Daniel Kerr and Michael Braun.

From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Fletcher ran riot, gathering 18 touches to half-time and becoming the linkman between the Eagles defence and attack.

Judd was closely manned by Hasleby, but still cut free to kick a trademark running goal from a centre-square takeaway.

Wirrpunda played with poise and flair across half back. Beau Waters threw his teenage body into places where angels fear to tread to engineer critical West Coast possessions.

He created the inspirational second-quarter goal that drove a dagger through the Dockers' heart, shovelling a ball to Ashley Sampi which the silky forward nailed on the left foot from 40 metres."[1]
