From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Jakovich finished with 29 possessions and 10 marks, and fittingly marked strongly in front of Carey when the final siren rang. It was an outstanding effort from one of the Brownlow Medal favorites who now leads his series with Carey 2-1. Carey was not disgraced, however, and several of his seven marks were gems. But, like Longmire and McKernan, he was beaten, which explained why the normally prolific Kangaroos kicked just nine goals for the match.

That West Coast could manage just 10 was partly attributable to Michael Martyn, who kept Peter Sumich to only four kicks and two goals. The Eagles got three goals from the elusive Dean Kemp and two from Craig Turley, one of which was a classic - a left-foot snap on the run from deep in the forward pocket.

Kemp was supreme in the centre and, certainly for the first three terms, thrashed Anthony Stevens. Peter Matera and Chris Mainwaring were also damaging on the wings, while Don Pyke as usual had a heap of the ball in the centre."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"After being restricted to just one goal from the second and third quarters, North Melbourne made a desperate last term charge led by Anthony Stevens, which realised five goals in 15 minutes.

When rookie John Barnett kicked a goal 20 minutes into the final stanza, the Kangaroos had climbed to within two kicks of the lead before the steady West Coast defence stopped the North run.

The win took West Coast's season record to 15-5 with two matches to play."[2]
