From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Eagles coach Mick Malthouse rotated his forwards in search of the potency West Coast established in last week's powerful 131-point win over Brisbane.

But the Eagles' forwards were neither lethal nor efficient. An underestimated Richmond defence exposed the Eagles' deficiencies at centre half-forward as McIntosh, Mark Hepburn, Sumich and Glen Jakovich were all used in the key attacking position.

Jakovich, benched after a poor start at centre half-back where he was well beaten by former teammate Stevan Jackson, proved the most effective of the Eagles' big men after half-time when he was moved to half-forward.

It took Eagles vice-captain Michael Brennan to control Jackson. Brennan started on the interchange bench, then emerged as the matchwinner from centre half-back with several inspiring lone-hand dashes from defence."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"Richmond's ability to shake two midfield tags almost pushed the Tigers to one of the biggest upsets of the season.

Malthouse used Don Pyke to shadow centreman Matthew Knights and David Hart was assigned to guard dangerous Tigers rover Craig Lambert.

But Knights and Lambert, playing his 100th AFL match, dominated the man-on-man contests and brought the Tigers back after the team failed to score in the second quarter."[2]
