From the papers[]
The Age[]
"The Eagles had the fiery Karl Langdon, back from suspension, and Dean Laidley - recalled from the wilderness after six weeks - setting up the play.
The Eagles' convincing third quarter sealed the issue and Collingwood simply could not work its way forward enough to make the game a contest.
Even though their defenders, led by the hard-working Michael Gayfer, continued to work hard, it was a question of whether the Eagles could go on and do what coach John Todd has often asked - crush a team."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"After leading by 10 points at half time, the Eagles wrapped up the match with two four-goal bursts in the opening and closing stages of the quarter.
Collingwood was unable to stem the flow or make up ground and the Eagles went into the final term with an unassailable 52-point lead.
Aided by Manson's injury, the Eagles' small men John Gastev, John Ammear and David Hart won the ball easily out of the centre and moved repeatedly and easily into attack.
Ruck rover Karl Langdon in particular was an inspiration, as he used his bustling and hard-hitting style of play to good effect, breaking up packs and winning the difficult ball."[2]
