2 S.Stretch (MEL)
1 B.Wilson (MEL)
Melbourne put a mortgage on a final five spot and all but snuffed out the Eagles' hopes of a finals campaign with a comprehensive victory under lights at the MCG. The Dees held West Coast to a single point for the first term and increased their lead at every break to record a 61-point win. Steve Malaxos had 29 disposals for the losers and John Gastev recorded 20.

From the papers[]
The Age[]
"West Coast had few full-game contributors; Barich was one and Steve Malaxos possibly another. Ross Glendinning, a strong player all season, kicked two goals in the final quarter but was down on the night.
But it was the inability to dispose of the ball accurately that cost West Coast dearly in the first half.
West Coast may be satisfied with its overall effort for the year but Ron Alexander will be disappointed with the team's uncompetitive performance in such an important game."[1]
