West Coast played out their second draw of the season after four fairly uninspiring quarters failed to produce a winner on a day when Glen Jakovich passed Guy McKenna's club games record. The younger Cats side led for most of the game, and held a one-point margin seconds from the final siren when Michael Braun took a brave mark before hitting the post with his set shot to tie the scores. Chad Fletcher had 30 possessions and Phil Matera continued his recent good form with another 4-goal haul.

From the papers[]
The Sunday Age[]
"When Johnson kicked his second and Geelong's sixth goal early in the second quarter, West Coast looked headed for its fourth loss at Skilled Stadium in as many years.
But, as always, it was Ben Cousins who stood up and sparked the Eagles out of their lethargy.
He had good support from the fleet-footed Callum Chambers, who, after spending most of the season in the WAFL, made a major statement to West Coast selectors yesterday with his running to space and penetrating play.
A late goal to the dangerous Phil Matera had the margin back to 16 points at half-time and, fatally for the Cats, the seed of doubt had been planted in their minds."[2]
