West Coast prevailed in a wet and low-scoring affair in front of a big Subiaco crowd, winning by 22 points to solidify their position in the top reaches of the ladder. Don Pyke and Peter Wilson each had 26 possessions for the home side.

From the papers[]
The Age[]
"West Coast never allowed Hawthorn to gain the incentive. From the start, it was clear that the Eagles were going to be more than Hawthorn's match.
West Coast led by 10 points at quarter-time, a handy lead in the conditions.
At half-time, the lead had stretched to 20 points, and the game appeared to be firmly in West Coast's grasp.
Hawthorn had few good ball winners. It constantly fell down across half-forward, again underlining its problem in that position since losing Dermott Brereton to injury."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"To complete a miserable journey west for the Hawks, full-forward Jason Dunstall failed to reach 100 goals for the season yesterday.
Needing two goals to achieve the milestone, Dunstall was restricted to just one major by Eagles' full-back Michael Brennan.
A downpour during the first term saturated an already damp surface but Harding showed his versatility with strong work around the packs."[2]
