From the papers[]
The Age[]
"The Eagles always looked the more slick combination with their ball-handling skills and superb disposal ideally suited to the spacious Carrara ground. But to its credit, Brisbane persisted for the four quarters and the match was still in the balance until late in the final term.
The Eagles won it through their half-forward line where Don Holmes (seven goals), Andrew MacNish (three goals) and Chris Lewis (two goals) dominated.
But rover Robert Wiley was a linchpin in the Eagles' success. Each time the Bears threatened it was Wiley who chipped in off the packs to give his forwards another taste of the football.
Just as effective was utility Chris Mainwaring, who shut out Bears danger man Brad Hardie in the final term."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"Despite the lack of atmosphere, the Bears showed plenty of motivation in light of wooden spoon rival Richmond's win over St Kilda on Saturday.
They came out with renewed spirit, matched the Eagles' endeavour, and were still a chance after 20 minutes of the final term.
The Bears clawed back from a 23-point deficit late in the second term to lead for the first time after six minutes of the third.
But two Eagles — Chris Mainwaring and Don Holmes — changed the tide of the game."[2]
