2 M.Barlow (FRE)
1 N.Fyfe (FRE)
West Coast started brightly and led at halftime but had a horror third quarter, made worse when Mark LeCras suffered a broken arm in a collision with Tendai Mzungu. Fremantle increased their lead in the last to run out comfortable 28 point winners. Josh Kennedy was West Coast's best in his 100th AFL game, with 8 marks and 2 goals to go with his 19 possessions.

From the coach[]
"It was really centre clearances because I think we did well at other stoppages around the ground, so those set-ups and structures are pretty good. Centre bounces they got forward and inside 50 too easily. I am not sure if that is their big bodies or the periods when Cox wasn't in the ruck. I am not sure. That was a big part of it - they went inside 50 14 times from centre clearances to our two, I think.
"...We got (Cripps) to the club and we were really pleased with what he showed through the pre-season. That first goal he kicked was outstanding, taking the mark going back. He is going to be a good player for us for a long period.
"We probably went out there tonight with four or five players of our best 22 not out there and then we lost a couple throughout the night. We are really pleased with the great opportunity younger players got tonight and they will keep improving. We learn a lot tonight. Players get opportunities and learn and improve but we want to get our best team out there as soon as we can so we can see how good we are."[1]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"West Coast's defence had held up well until half-time. Adam Selwood had shut down Hayden Ballantyne and Michael Walters was not yet a factor.
But after the frenetic opening quarter, it was trench warfare, which suits Fremantle fine. Crowley, who now has a claim on being the best shutdown midfielder in the AFL, had Shuey at his wits' end. Priddis, Scott Selwood and Dean Cox were in there fighting, but starting to lose.
After half-time, Fremantle kept piling on the midfield muscle and peppering their forward 50m until the scores came. And they came in a rush as ruckman Jon Griffin hit a purple patch and a trio of left-footers - recruit Danyle Pearce, re-established Nick Suban and the reborn Walters - hit the scoreboard."[2]
The Age[]
"It got ugly for the Eagles after the main break, capped off when LeCras left the ground late in the third term. It was the last thing the star forward needed, or deserved.
Having missed the entire 2012 season with a knee injury, LeCras enjoyed an outstanding pre-season and was among the Eagles best on Saturday night before he fell awkwardly in a contest and was subbed out of the game.
LeCras has fractured the arm and will require surgery to have a plate put in. He will be out for at least a month."[3]
PerthNow[]
"Early on the Eagles silenced the purple army, having 18 possessions to three in the opening four minutes as St Kilda recruit Jamie Cripps kicked the game's first goal after a minute.
Ashton Hams was another unlikely hero for the Eagles in the opening stanza, booting consecutive goals.
The crowd was livid with his second, which came after the 174cm Hams attracted a high tackle from David Mundy that slid from his chest to his neck.
West Coast led by 21 points by the time Nick Suban got Fremantle on the board 18 minutes in."[4]
