In a replay of the Grand Final from the previous season, the result was the same with the Eagles overcoming a turbulent offseason and the late withdrawal of a couple of key players to win by a solitary point, the third straight time a contest between the two clubs had been decided by the barest of margins. Captain Chris Judd and offside Daniel Kerr were sensational in the absence of Ben Cousins, with Kerr laying a match-saving tackle in the final moments. Michael Braun played his 200th game and Mitch Brown his first after being a late inclusion.

From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"Just like the season-decider of 2006, Sydney gun Adam Goodes kicked the first goal of the final quarter to narrow West Coast's lead to 13 points as the Swans charge gathered more momentum.
But just like Leo Barry did in the Sydney premiership of 2005, Daniel Kerr floated across the front of a pack in the final quarter to take a flying, defensive mark to stamp him as the best player on the ground.
His match-saving tackle on Jarrad McVeigh as the Swans, who were just that point behind at the 26-minute mark, ran towards an open goal, defied belief after his gut-busting performance through four quarters.
Kerr epitomised the Eagles' desperation to put a tumultuous pre-season behind them as he brushed away his off-field dramas with a sensational midfield performance."[1]
