From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Leading by 14 points at the first change, the question was whether the Eagles could maintain their new standard. Incredibly, they lifted it, piling on 11 goals in the second term to make it the highest scoring quarter in the club's history.

The Eagles' biggest goals tally for a game last season was 21. On Friday night, they had 22 on the board by three-quarter time to lead by a massive 56 points.

Phil Matera, with six goals - four opposed to Robert Scott and two against Byron Pickett - looked invincible. Peter Matera and Dean Kemp, 31, looked young and spritely as they carved apart the Roo midfield. Ben Cousins, 10 years their junior, was cool and mature as he gained 30 disposals. The even younger Michael Gardiner won the ruck."[1]
