From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Malthouse began making moves after a second quarter in which full-forward Peter Sumich limped off with a twisted ankle after a 2.2 contribution, and in which the Eagles managed just eight points with the wind as St Kilda kicked 2.3 to level the half-time scores.

Five minutes into the third quarter, David Sierakowski banged a 50-metre drop punt through the goals and Malthouse made the switch. He swapped AFL rookie Fraser Gehrig, 19, from centre half-forward and replaced him with star back man Glen Jakovich. It proved the winning ploy.

Within a minute, Jakovich was showing Shane Wakelin, who had been having a good contest with Gehrig, how to snap a pass to someone like Chris Lewis standing in the goal square. Six gimme points.[1]

Canberra Times[]

"The Saints played credible and aggressive football to have the scores locked at half-time, giving little room to move with rover Nathan Burke heavily involved.

West Coast went without a goal with the wind in the second term after 11 goals were kicked in a free-flowing opening quarter.

But with a suitably agitated coach, some positional changes and better execution of their mountainous possession, the Eagles blazed away with six goals in each of the final quarters as their running men took control."[2]
