West Coast moved back into the top eight after cruising to victory over an inexperienced Brisbane Lions side by 68 points. In an often lacklustre and scrappy affair, the Eagles were slow out of the blocks but able to break away in the second term before running away with the match late. Dom Sheed had a big game with two goals from 29 possessions and spearhead Josh Kennedy continued an unlikely push for a third straight Coleman Medal with another six-goal haul.

From the coach[]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"In a match that never reached any great heights, Dom Sheed relished his increased midfield role in the absence of a rested Matt Priddis.
Sheed finished with 29 disposals and kicked two goals to give another indication that he is ready to step full time into the role long played by Priddis, who has announced he is retiring at the end of this season.
Mark LeCras responded to the considerable pressure over his own playing future by booting two goals as he fights to earn another contract.
His first major was a reminder of his mercurial talents around goal, with LeCras kicking a banana from the left pocket on the run in one of the game’s few shining moments."
The Age[]
"Sunday's game against Brisbane reached no great heights.
The Lions were kept to their lowest score for the season, managing just 6.9 to 17.11.
After a pretty even opening term, the Eagles kicked five goals in 10 minutes at the start of the second to open up a 34-point lead.
The task was always going to be tough for the Lions. They haven't won in Perth since round 19 of the 2010 season, and haven't beaten the Eagles since round 10 of 2012."
Courier-Mail[]
"The Lions had their share of the footy and at times were able to open up the hosts with their ball use but turnovers hurt them dearly and the Eagles were able to give their rampant forwards too much supply for the Lions to hope to defend.
Josh Kennedy breathed new life into the Coleman Medal race, booting 6.4 to be four goals shy of Bomber Joe Daniher on 53 and two adrift of Lance Franklin and Ben Brown on 51.
Kennedy has missed five games and it would be a brave man to bet against him claiming a third Coleman medal if he stays fit."
East Perth report[]
Round 19 (29 July)
East Perth kept their finals hopes alive with a tight four-point win over Claremont at Claremont Oval. Chris Masten was busy all day with 37 possessions and Sharrod Wellingham picked up 22 after moving into more of a midfield role.
Appearing for East Perth: Cole, Giles, Gorter, Hill, Lamb, Masten, McInnes, Snadden, Watson, Wellingham. Reserves: Bayok, Rioli, Tunbridge, Waterman.
