2 S.Pendlebury (COL)
1 S.Sidebottom (COL)
West Coast's hopes of a top-four finish took a hit as their poor away record continued against Collingwood at the MCG. The game was tight throughout but the lowly-ranked Pies took a stranglehold with a big second term, taking a 17-point lead into half time. The visitors were able to work their way back in and hit the front early in the final term, but a run of Collingwood goals iced the game. Once again without Nic Naitanui the Eagles were beaten in the midfield and outworked around the ground, comprehensively losing the hitouts, clearances, contested possessions and tackle counts. Andrew Gaff led West Coast with 35 possessions and Jack Darling kicked four goals.

From the coach[]
"It’s a blow. Probably the way we played too, for the most part was disappointing. Some of the numbers were really, really damaging to us. Some of the areas that we knew Collingwood were very good at, we just didn’t handle it.
"There are a few issues we have acknowledged for a few weeks. We got exposed today through the contest, with and without the ball, we were leaving too much to too few and then not seizing critical moments. I mean, how many times did we drop chest marks or fumble or caught ball up? That’s what pressure games are. They are critical moments in those games. To come back in the second half, in that third quarter I thought we showed a bit of grit and we hit the front in the last quarter, but we just gave up too many easy goals from stoppages and just lost any ascendancy in that last quarter.
"...I’m probably more concentrating on our mindset and our ability to play our way rather than the ladder position. Obviously we haven’t been playing at our best and it was on the cards to a certain degree. Some of the numbers in the last few weeks were not heading in the right direction. Today we got exposed in that area."
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"Moore twice took towering grabs over Sharrod Wellingham in the second term and converted them both after peeling away from direct opponent Eric Mackenzie.
Mackenzie had been moved onto Moore after the Pies’ spearhead had got on top of Will Schofield in the first quarter.
Moore took six first-half marks, including five contested, and helped the Pies to eight marks inside 50m – the most by any side in the first half of a match this season.
But he left the field late in the second term with a hip injury and didn’t return."[1]
The Age[]
"Trailing only at quarter-time due to some wayward kicking and West Coast's greater efficiency going forward, Collingwood kicked five goals to one in the second term to wrest back the initiative, then withstood a West Coast comeback to run out the game much more strongly with a five-goals-to-two final term.
Brodie Grundy gave his side a big advantage with a dominant 45 ruck hitouts while Taylor Adams and Adam Treloar capitalised by dominating the clearances.
The Pies lost Darcy Moore in the second term after he had kicked three of his side's six goals to that point. For a long time they struggled to score goals, but when they came, they came with a rush.
West Coast continued their indifferent form away from their Subiaco fortress."[2]
Herald Sun[]
"The only thing missing for the Magpies was the polish, with the home side often letting itself down with its final disposal inside 50.
The intent was all there; the execution still leaves plenty to be desired.
West Coast lifted in the third term, taking advantage of a Collingwood forward line that suddenly looked lost without Moore.
The visitors booted three consecutive goals before Collingwood star Steele Sidebottom booted an important steadying goal that gave his side a three-point lead at the final change.
The Magpies finished the stronger, with West Coast looking desperate to get on the next flight back to Perth."[3]
