West Coast were lucky to hold on for a narrow win, after giving up a 50-point lead early in the second half to trail by a goal heading in to time-on in the last stanza. In the absence of Nic Naitanui, Dean Cox was enormous with 37 hitouts, 27 disposals, 13 marks (including a couple of important pack marks late in the game) and the sealing goal. There was plenty of cause for celebration, with Adam Selwood making his 150th appearance, Matt Priddis his 100th, Eric MacKenzie his 50th and young ruckman Scott Lycett his debut in place of Naitanui.

From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"A sensational roving snap by Mark LeCras from a boundary line throw-in, which left just two seconds on the game clock, appeared to drive a dagger into the Bulldogs’ heart.
But the momentum had swung and the home team kept coming on the other side of the final break as West Coast appeared to lock into preservation mode.
Just 10 minutes later, the Bulldogs had booted four more goals, Barry Hall had five and the scores were level after the Eagles had led for the entire game. Then when Giansiracusa kicked his fourth at the 17-minute mark, the Bulldogs were in front for the first time in the game.
West Coast then benefitted from a disgraceful holding decision by umpire Ray Chamberlain against Liam Picken on Jack Darling, who goaled to level the scores again.
And with the game to be won, Cox starred at both ends as the Eagles got home in one that will live long in the memory."[2]
The Age[]
"The Eagles had dominated the game's early stages, kicking six of the first seven goals to set up a 27-point lead at the first change, which stretched to 43 points at halftime and 50 points early in the third term.
But with Bulldogs captain Matthew Boyd putting in a lion-hearted performance in the midfield, Bob Murphy repeatedly charging out of defence to set up attacking moves and Barry Hall (five goals) and Daniel Giansiracusa (four) providing targets in attack, the Dogs came surging back.
They kicked six of seven goals in an 18-minute burst in the third term, including two to Hall and a brilliant soccered effort out of mid-air by Giansiracusa to narrow the gap to 19 points."[3]
