Despite both WA sides occupying spots in the bottom three, a bumper crowd turned out for the final Derby of the year and got treated to a decent contest. West Coast had the best of the early running and looked in a comfortable position at the final change, but Fremantle clawed their way back to a 14 point deficit before the Eagles steadied to win their fifth game of the year. Glen Jakovich was awarded the Ross Glendinning Medal for his 23 possession game and Mark Merenda kicked four goals.
