From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The momentum of the power team of 1991 appeared to be unstoppable, particularly as North's running players appeared to have ground to a halt, and it had no big men capable of pulling in a steadying mark.

Fittingly, it was Mark Roberts who was involved in the two pieces of play that gave North its win. First he ran on to the ball after John Longmire paddled it between his legs and, hotly pursued by Ashley McIntosh, drilled a low shot through for North's 12th goal and a three-point lead at the 22-minute mark. It was his third goal for the night.

Then, with the match going into time-on, Roberts trapped Michael Brennan in a tackle on the members' boundary line and kicked the ball forward to Longmire. Although the full-forward's swinging shot thudded into the far goal-post, the ball was crucially held in North's attacking zone for another minute."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"Two freak goals by journeyman Mark Roberts in the final quarter set up the memorable win.

The first came after he stole the ball off a goalsquare pack 11 minutes into the quarter, then 10 minutes later he booted a punt kick 50 metres to give them a three-point lead.

West Coast nearly pulled off the escape of the year after clawing its way back from a 39-point deficit early in the third quarter.

The Eagles grabbed the lead when Brett Heady kicked truly five minutes into the last quarter."[2]
