2 B.Stephens (FIT)
1 P.Roos (FIT)
West Coast may have sealed the fate of coach John Todd with a poor final term, giving Fitzroy a win and a shot at a rare finals appearance. The Eagles led by 9 points midway through the third term, but allowed the Lions to pile on several straight goals to seal the win. Former Lion Dean Turner had 23 possessions and Phil Scott had 22 hitouts.

From the papers[]
The Age[]
"It was a fitting result. Despite some gritty play from West Coast on the shifting sandy surface, Fitzroy had always looked that little bit more classy. Converting that class into a winning score was the problem.
After an even first quarter, Fitzroy gradually got on top to lead by 12 points two-thirds of the way through the second. Then John Worsfold - who with Steve Malaxos and Laurie Keene injured and John Annear benched for most of the game, must now be the first among equals of the four Eagles' vice-captains - stopped trying to bump opponents with misapplied vigor long enough to swing the game his team's way.
First, Worsfold's lovely pass found the leading Peter Sumich for West Coast's second goal. Then Worsfold himself bounced one through from centre half-forward."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"Austin shifted Darren Kappler to a wing in the third quarter and the left-footer kicked 3 goals in the second half while Osborne finally got away from Andrew Lockyer.
Osborne, who kicked 11 against Melbourne last week, held 12 marks and kicked 5 goals with another 4 failing to make the distance in the heavy conditions.
In defence, Gary Pert and Brett Stephens eclipsed young Eagles' pair Peter Sumich and Steven Jackson.
Sumich kicked 2 goals but also kicked 4 points and struggled for accuracy all day."[2]
