West Coast's record losing streak hit 15 and showed no signs of stopping, beaten comfortably at home by Richmond. Some poor conversion by the Tigers kept the home side in the hunt in the first half, but two late goals before halftime followed by four quick goals to start the second half blew the game open. From there it looked like another thrashing was on the cards but the Eagles fought back, closing the margin to 25 before giving up another couple of late goals. Tim Kelly picked up 27 touches, while Oscar Allen overcame an apparent arm injury to kick three goals and forward partner Jack Darling kicked his 500th career goal.

Quarter by quarter[]

From the coach[]

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"The Eagles had plenty of early injury worries with Jeremy McGovern spending more than 20 minutes off the ground being assessed for concussion and Tom Barrass being involved in a big fall. Oscar Allen also hit the ground hard after flying for a ball and clutched at his left shoulder.

While he returned, the key forward did not have a disposal until the third quarter but still managed three goals for the day.

Richmond dominated the early territory game but couldn't get the most out of that. They had 18 inside-50s to six in the first term and took eight marks inside 50 but kicked just two goals. The inaccuracy continued in the second term as both teams wasted chances.

Late in the third quarter Jack Darling kicked his 500th career goal. Darling marked a pass from Tim Kelly and snapped the ball through before celebrating the significant moment. He hit the post earlier in the game when the milestone awaited, but became just the third Eagle behind Josh Kennedy and Peter Sumich to reach 500 majors."[1]

Reserves[]

Round 14 (15 July)

An uncharacteristically strong-looking West Coast lineup put up a fight against reigning premiers West Perth but were left to rue a shocking first term where the Falcons kicked seven unanswered goals. Midfielder Xavier O'Neill responded to his senior omission with a team-high 32 possessions.
