West Coast bounced back from a run of losses and knocked Essendon out of the top eight with a comfortable win at Subiaco. Debutant Callum Wilson kicked the first two goals of the game as the Eagles got out to an early lead, and though Essendon threatened to close the gap a few times West Coast was able to steady on each occasion and take the points, in the process recording their fifth win of the year and putting paid to tanking talk from the East. Mark LeCras was electric with three goals from 26 possessions and Ben McKinley maintained his good run against the Bombers by kicking four goals.

From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"Up forward, LeCras, who finished with three goals, proved a handful for ageing Bomber Dustin Fletcher, who was run from pillar to post by a host of Eagles, including Andrew Embley and Nic Naitanui. To his credit, though, while Fletcher looked unsettled in the first term, he was as solid as a rock in the last three quarters.
The Bombers played catch-up football all day after West Coast, driven by the midfield strength and will of Matthew Priddis, the one-touch play of Matt Rosa, Brad Ebert and Adam Selwood, got an early break.
Jobe Watson, Angus Monfries and Ricky Dyson helped the Bombers draw within 13 points in the last quarter but West Coast settled to enjoy the win.
Other positives included the improved showing of midfielders Rosa and Ebert while Mitch Brown's first half produced some of his best football for the year."[1]
The Age[]
"The Eagles had nowhere near the same intensity in the early part of the second half but, unfortunately for Essendon, its output was much the same.
While throwing plenty of punches, Matthew Knights' side were not landing many with McKinley's and Le Cras' quick counters vital in the third term, and Darren Glass superb in countering at the other end.
With their season on the line, the Bombers were expected to lift in the last quarter, and Kyle Reimers' great long kick setting the scene for another dramatic finale.
But a Henry Slattery miss after a debatable free kick deflated thoughts of comeback, and while young Wilson was in two minds with the game on the line, Brad Ebert was not when finding McKinley to kick his fourth goal."[2]
