From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"Both sides were coming off hige wins but the midfield class gulf was noticeable from the start.

Daniel Kerr began like he had been eating Mexican jumping beans all week but was probably just shaded by Ben Cousins, who ran a marathon in the second half to cut the Saints to ribbons.

The Eagles slipped and slid and took their time to adjust to the notoriously treacherous surface but showed composure when it was needed and finals-like intensity for most of the match.

They were playing at a level the Saints could match only in patches."

The Age[]

"The Eagles were 11 points up after a first half they had largely dominated. When Steven Armstrong combined with Sampi to kick their fourth goal halfway through the term, they had led by 23 points.

West Coast had played with great intensity, which the Saints mostly matched. It took St Kilda until the last minute of the first quarter to score a goal and it was halfway through the second before the Saints added another and led by nine points at the end of the first term.

There were plenty of mistakes, players on both sides slipping, fumbling and mis-kicking. But they were errors born of pressure, the tackling of both sides in close limiting the opportunities for clean possession and disposal."
