1 N.Riewoldt (STK)
Under an open roof at Docklands, West Coast were blown away in the first half en route to a poor 61-point defeat. St Kilda allowed the Eagles' star midfielders no space and controlled play for most of the game. West Coast mounted a brief fightback in the third quarter as skipper Ben Cousins worked his way into the game but the Saints steadied to run out comfortable winners.

The Age[]
"Despite poor kicking, the saving grace for the Saints was the dismal Eagles performance. ,West Coast refused to place real pressure on its opponents and could not break into its own forward line. The Eagles had just one scoring shot in the first quarter - a point from Phil Read - as the Saints defence strangled options.
Nick Riewoldt was given far too much space to run by Adam Hunter and Clarke was running away from David Wirrpunda, while Fraser Gehrig had the better of Darren Glass at full-forward. As the Saints stars clicked, the Eagles could not create opportunities.
True, the West Australians were without star ruckman Michael Gardiner, Chad Fletcher and forward Andrew Embley, but there was still enough quality on the ground to provide a contest."[2]
