From the papers[]

The Age[]

"After leading by 23 points 20 minutes into the opening term, the Dockers conceded a couple of time-on goals to fritter away the advantage and from then on, the Eagles defence reigned supreme, led by the hard-as-nails Guy McKenna.

Mr Fix-it, Chris Waterman, started in attack but quickly moved to defence, and with Glen Jakovich playing his best game for the season and Ashley McIntosh again the unobtrusive negator, the Dockers had trouble getting inside the attacking zone.

The midfield battle between Michael Braun and Adrian Fletcher was fascinating, the experienced Docker initially getting on top, only to see the young Eagle rebound and finish ahead.

Similarly, a non-stop man-on-man contest between the ever-dangerous Ben Cousins and the close-checking Chris Bond was enthralling. Cousins worked extremely hard, but with only one goal his forward-line influence was reduced."[1]
