From the papers[]
The Sunday Age[]
"Running into a fierce breeze in the first quarter, North Melbourne employed the usual damage-control methods to keep the Eagles' lead to a minimum. Wayne Carey went into the bounce, and was often backward of the centre, trying to bottle up the West Coast forward line.
Strange thing was, the Kangaroos were also so hard at the ball, they kept moving it forward. Their forwards such as Archer were so far on top, they created some scoring chances. West Coast's own forward line was so overwhelmed by the desperate North defence, it failed to fire. And by quarter-time, North had an unlikely eight-point lead. and a stranglehold on the contest.
All it took was another three quarters of likeminded desperation and North had shrugged the West Coast gorilla from its shoulders and given it a good kicking on the way down."[1]
