From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The Eagles led by 11 points at the major break and, within 10 minutes of the third term, had broken to a 30-point lead, thanks to two goals in as many minutes by Peter Sumich, and another by Craig Turley.

For all intents and purposes, the game was over. The Eagles freely roamed the open spaces of Subiaco, kicking four goals to Richmond's one in the third quarter, and five to the Tigers' two in the last.

Most of the hard work for West Coast was performed by Peter Wilson, the oft-maligned half-forward who seems to thrive in heavy conditions.

Yesterday, Wilson was dynamic, leading into spaces and providing another avenue of attack. He finished with 18 possessions and one goal.

In the end, the Eagles had several serviceable forwards, including Sumich who kicked six goals - two in the final term as the Eagles eased into a canter - and the dynamic Chris Lewis, who continued his consistent form this year with three goals."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"Two of the Eagles' favourite sons, Chris Mainwaring and Craig Turley, were in devastating form through the midfield, gathering countless possessions and providing the forwards with many opportunities.

In attack, full-forward Peter Sumich capitalised on many chances when he bagged six goals, while opportunists Peter Wilson, Shane Bond and Chris Lewis snared five between them.

Centre half-forward Jason Ball did not kick a goal, but his match statistics of 12 kicks, 10 marks and 11 handpasses were contributing factors in the Eagles' win."[2]
