From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Fortune flowed with the Eagles yesterday once their sole big man, Laurie Keene, one-out against the formidable Demon duo of Steve O'Dwyer and Jim Stynes, started to get on top.

Ironically, the Eagles began to dominate after one of their better players, John Worsfold, left the field after losing a contact lens midway through the second term.

Chris Mainwaring, who had done well on a wing, sparked the team when he moved to the centre so Worsfold's return meant that an ineffective Karl Langdon had to vacate his half-forward position.

Worsfold then dominated the game across the half-forward line, giving the Eagles' half-back rebounders something to kick to."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"The Eagles switched into top gear near the end of the second half when John Worsfold moved from the centre to a half forward.

Worsfold was an inspiration to his teammates and set up numerous opportunities. He picked up 11 kicks in the match-winning third quarter, as the Eagles peppered their goals to score 5.7 while holding Melbourne to a solitary goal scored in time-on.

Worsfold was complemented by the Eagles small brigade of John Annear, Wally Napera (sic) and Chris Mainwaring.

Full forward Ross Glendenning finished the match with six goals and could have added at least five more but for poor shooting."[2]
