From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Keene was magnificent in a desperate last quarter. He was forced to do all the heavy work after West Coast lost its other key ruckman, Alex Ishchenko.

In a hectic passage of play at the 23-minute mark of the first term, with the Eagles leading five goals to four, Ishchenko strained his troublesome thigh, got mixed up with Dermott Brereton was reported for striking Hawthorn rover John Platten and left the ground.

That left the Eagles undermanned in the heavyweight department, but Keene answered the challenge superbly, controlling the air as West Coast clawed its way to victory."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"The lead kept shrinking until Chris Lewis marked and put the Eagles in front.

Russell Greene snatched it back with a freak snap from the pockct but Keene topped that with a 70m punt from the wing.

Defender Rod Lester-Smith missed two set shots in the dying minutes before Platten put the Hawks back in front.

Eagles captain Ross Glendinning, held to three kicks in the first three terms, slammed through his second goal of the term, in what looked like the clincher."[2]
