West Coast finally broke through for a win after seven straight losses, upsetting the Saints to avoid equaling the club's longest losing streak. The match appeared to be going to script in the first quarter but the Eagles fought back to level the match and then overrun St Kilda in the final term. Youngster Brad Ebert kicked three goals from 25 possessions in his best performance to date and Brent Staker also kicked three from 22 disposals.

The Sunday Age[]
"Once again, the Saints slipped clear, partly because of greater endeavour from their midfield and partly because of a string of squandered opportunities for West Coast with Mark LeCras, normally the sharpest of sharpshooters, a culprit missing three set shots.
But for the third time in as many quarters, St Kilda's run went from vibrant to stifled to virtually non-existent as the quarter progressed.
Riewoldt kicked his third goal, but that feat was matched at the other end by Ebert. LeCras finally found the range to kick his second and when ruckman Mark Seaby roved a spilled ball in the goal square to snap the Eagles' ninth, they were unlikely two point leaders at the last change.
By the time the game had ticked into time-on, the unlikely leaders were surging away with the game. Goddard had blotted his copybook with a 50-metre penalty that gifted Adam Selwood a goal and the only downside for the Eagles was the departure from the field of Cox, writhing in agony from cramp."[1]
