West Coast's winning streak came to a halt against a Sydney side that applied their trademark pressure at every stoppage. The Eagles got into the game in the second term through four Dean Cox goals, but managed just three more for the game as Sydney put the clamps on. Chad Fletcher had 21 possessions but the Eagles' star midfield was well held.

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"After a frenetic opening term, Sydney came out nine points ahead but it was much due to West Coast's errant kicking as any dominance.

Early goals to Darren Jolly and Quinten Lynch got each team on the board before a quarter of missed opportunities for the Eagles compared with the better conversion of the Swans.

Phil Matera, Sam Butler and Chad Fletcher were three Eagles guilty of missing shots they would have expected to kick.

However, each side would have been reasonably satisfied tactically. On the Eagles side, Tyson Stenglein was keeping a tight blanket on Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes, Drew Banfield kept Nick Davis quiet and the midfield rotations looked to be relentlessly grinding towards dominance."[1]

The Age[]

"Sydney booted eight goals to three in the second half, with West Coast unable to kick on after ruckman Dean Cox's four-goal second quarter.

The Swans led by nine at the first break, but Cox put the visitors ahead by seven after scoring from a snap shot, a goal on the run, a free kick and mark to stun the noisy home crowd.

But they whey were in full voice in the third term as Bolton, Schneider, O'Loughlin and Nick Davis all goaled to put the Swans up by 10 into the final quarter.

Schneider's second and O'Loughlin's third in the opening five minutes of the last left Sydney 22 points clear."[2]
