West Coast struggled early against a determined Hawthorn outfit, and were lucky not to be further behind at halftime after the Hawks controlled the latter part of the half. The second half was all West Coast, as Hawthorn managed just four points to fall to a 56 point defeat. David Wirrpanda had 20 possessions to be among the Eagles' best in his 100th game, and Andrew Embley had 21 touches and a goal before suffering a broken collarbone midway through the final term. On debut, Brent Staker kicked goals with his first two kicks.
