West Coast bounced back from the previous week's loss to defeat the ladder-leading Cats and keep touch with the top eight. Geelong led by as much as 28 points in the second term but a big second half by the Eagles saw them comfortably home. Chris Lewis kicked three goals from 25 disposals on his return from suspension and Chad Morrison had 30 touches and eight marks.

From the papers[]

The Age[]

"West Coast's Brett Heady was in the thick of the action. In the third term he barreled into Leigh Colbert with a fair hip and shoulder as Peter Sumich marked 40 metres out. Hocking, incensed, confronted Heady as Sumich kicked the third of his four goals.

Ben Cousins had a hard day against Michael Mansfield. In the 20th minute of the first quarter, Cousins marked a pinpoint pass from Lewis on the boundary, just within scoring range. Mansfield flung him heavily before a groggy Cousins hit the post with his kick.

Late in the fourth term, Mansfield again crashed Cousins to the ground after the young Eagle had marked 50 metres out. That earnt a 50-metre penalty and enabled Cousins to kick his lone goal for the day."[1]
