From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The once dour and tight-fisted West Coast cracked the game open early on as Fraser Gehrig, Dean Kemp, Guy McKenna and others provided some scintillating running football. When Brisbane replied with more of the same, the standard of the game was regularly elevated to classy heights.

Andrew Donnelly (five goals) was the prime Eagle forward target, but often they did not need one, pushing as many as eight different players forward to run in and contribute goals in the first half. Just 10 minutes into the second quarter, the slick Eagles had cleared out to a 25-point advantage.

But then Matthew Clarke got on top of Ryan Turnbull in the ruck contests, eventually taking him apart, and the Bears' highly rated midfield took control. The Bears lost their leading goalkicker for the year, Alastair Lynch, just before half- time with a hamstring injury but you would not have known.

Justin Leppitsch came off the bench for three goals, Jason Akermanis booted six, Michael Voss four, and Shaun Hart three."[1]
