From the papers[]

The Age[]

"It was truly extraordinary contest in which Fitzroy, a wooden-spoon contender, comprehensively outplayed West Coast, the final-five aspirant, from the first bounce.

Fitzroy and West Coast appeared to be playing in entirely different conditions. Admittedly a light due and a ground that was heavy in patches made ball-handling testing, but the Eagles played as though they were battling with the Moorabbin mud.

The Lions, on the other hand, were not affected in the least by the slippery conditions. Instead, they were as enterprising and attacking as if it were the driest of afternoons. There were clever tap-ons, an abundance of precision short passes, and handballing you would not believe."[1]
