West Coast slumped to a 19th straight loss away from Subiaco after falling well behind Port Adelaide early. The Eagles turned the ball over regularly as Port opened up a sizeable lead by three quarter time before taking the foot off the pedal in the last term. Young midfielder Chris Masten picked up a career-high 38 possessions in a rare glimmer of hope.

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"Worsfold was livid at the first break, admitting later he was annoyed that his players were confused by their roles. His midfield was getting smashed at clearances, his defence made inexcusable disposal errors and his two key forwards, Ashley Hansen and Josh Kennedy, did not record a possession between them in the opening term.

Eagles captain Darren Glass made a physical statement early in the second quarter when he wiped out Justin Westhoff with a heavy, but fair, bump. That he ran past the ball to deliver the hit, allowing Brett Ebert to boot one of his three first-half goals, was reflective of the intent of the two teams.

West Coast's poor decision-making and disposal between the full-back line and the wing proved costly as the Power zipped to a 47-point lead by the main break and there was no way back for the visitors."[1]

The Age[]

"After 18 minutes, Port had kicked one goal and missed five easy shots. One could sense the self-imposed pressure, and a quality side would have blown it away.

Instead, Mark LeCras, uncharacteristically, missed an easy shot and Port worked the ball down to an unguarded Brett Ebert, who kicked an easy goal. And so it flowed; another four for the quarter representing a commanding 24-point lead at quarter-time.

And then, just when the Eagles looked threatening midway through the second, they handed Port more chances with poor disposals and clangers.

As a result, the Power became merciless and shortly before three-quarter-time led by 64 points. Its intensity rose and created gems from nothing, such as Warren Tredrea's left-foot snap goal from a pack late in the second term. "[2]
