From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"West Coast had a number of players who made incisive contributions on the forward line. Karl Langdon scored the first goal and set up the second. Brent Hutton replaced Ross Glendinning halfway through the first term and scored two goals to cap off the Eagles' seven-goal opening term.

Brisbane had fought back from a four-goal deficit to creep within four points at three-quarter time.

The Bears, who trailed by four points at half-time, took the lead at the start of the third quarter when Jim Edmond goaled from a free kick. Joe Cormack restored the home side's lead almost immediately.

Then Keene kicked two successive goals. The first was from a free kick against Geoff Raines after Keene was unlucky not to have been awarded a mark. A few minutes later he scored with a left-foot snap."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"The Eagles appeared to slow during the second quarter as the Bears kicked four goals to only one, to close within four points at halftime.

Two of the Bears' second-quarter goals were attributed to full-forward Warwick Capper, though television replays clearly showed his second was not kicked off the ground as the goal umpire thought, but knocked through by defender Geoff Miles.

The Bears grabbed the lead early in the third quarter through a goal by Jim Edmond before the Eagles quickly rattled up four goals through Joe Cormack and makeshift full-forward Laurie Keene.

The 202cm Keene made up admirably for the loss of regular spearhead Ross Glendenning, who left the ground in the first quarter with an thigh injury."[2]
