West Coast's abysmal season hit a new, historic low with a record-smashing defeat to the Swans in Sydney. Already anchored to the bottom of the ladder and riding a club-worst losing streak, the visitors were blown out of the water in the first term and, following a brief rally in the second, gave up 18 straight goals as they allowed Sydney to hold a training drill. The final margin of 171 was easily the biggest in club history, the fourth-biggest in league history and heaped the pressure on the senior coach and administration.

From the coach[]
From the papers[]
Sunday Times[]
"As has been the case all season, injuries also began to add salt to the wounds.
Jack Williams was subbed out of the contest early in the second term with a left ankle injury, while Tom Barrass spent two significant times on the bench and Samo Petrevski-Seton appeared to re-injure his quad.
Sydney had no sympathy though, running all over West Coast to kick 18 unanswered goals, including 11 in the third quarter alone.
It resembled more of a training drill rather than a football game for the Swans as the Eagles seemingly watched their opponents run all over them. There were few, if any, Eagles who won their position on the day."[1]
The Age[]
"Also making his mark was Angus Sheldrick, the young midfielder who has been biding his time in the red and white but shone against the Lions last week. This time the 19-year-old scored a major that blew out the difference to 94 points, before Gulden left five Eagles in his wake to bank his third and put a 100-point lead on the scoreboard.
Gulden set the tone from the off, assisting Chad Warner’s opening major within the first minute and adding his own in the second. Oscar Allen struck next via a set shot, in his 100th goal for West Coast, but that was where it ended for the Eagles, who found themselves on the end of five goals in the opening 13 minutes and an onslaught which did not let up.
Where the visitors struggled for disposals in their forward half, the Swans’ handballs were clean and their contested possession a picture of efficiency, outmuscling their opponents in every key area, albeit under very little pressure.
By half-time the deficit had swollen to 68 points and Simpson, down by the field and visibly strained, hung his head when Amartey landed his second before the major break.[2]

Round 11 (24 June)
West Coast's reserves suffered another heavy loss, but at least managed to keep Claremont's winning margin below 100, a rare occurrence in 2023. Zane Trew had a team-high 31 possessions.
