West Coast put up a spirited but ultimately unsuccessful fight to attempt to avoid their seventh straight loss. The Eagles led shortly before the final change but three quick goals to Kurt Tippett to start the last term gave the Crows a comfortable margin, and although West Coast got within two points heading into time-on Adelaide were able to steady and run out 22-point winners. Andrew Embley had 23 possessions and three goals in his 200th game, and Mark LeCras kicked four goals.

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"Adam Selwood, who has handed over the rigid tagging assignments to younger brother Scott, often found space and freedom on the outer wing to provide an outlet for his defenders, while Matt Rosa enjoyed his best match of the year.

And Andrew Embley, whose work at full-forward in the final term helped West Coast close to just two points before the cavaliers resumed control, played as solidly as he had all season in his 200th match.

Still, the Eagles fret under pressure and Chris Masten, who's no orphan in this area, remains a prime offender and needs to get his head steady to make his disposals hurt."[1]

The Sunday Age[]

"The Eagles stretched Adelaide all the way, but couldn't stop Kurt Tippett, who plunged a triple dagger through the hearts of Eagles fans early in the fourth term.

But playing at full-forward, Embley bagged two easy goals and debutant Ashley Smith from Dandenong Stingrays caused an eruption among the sparse crowd as the Eagles clung for their dear life in the game.

It all came to nought as Jason Porplyzia sealed the deal for the Crows to give his team a 15-point lead with only minutes to go in an enthralling final term."[2]
