In another thriller between the two previous Grand Finalists, Sydney appeared to have all the running in the first half and pulled away to a commanding lead by half-time. West Coast then came alive in the third through a pair of Quinten Lynch goals to get back within striking distance, and then carried that momentum into the final term, taking the lead through a Tyson Stenglein goal shortly before the final siren. Chris Judd led the team with 26 possessions opposed to Adam Goodes, while Stenglein was dangerous when swung forward late.
