From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"The Eagles' win was set up with an impressive six-goal third quarter. Multiple West Coast attacks were built out of defence, where David Wirrpanda showed superb touch.

Dean Cox and Ben Cousins continued their rich vein of form, while Sam Butler was excellent in the first half, surely doing enough to keep his place in the side for next week's blockbuster against Brisbane at Subiaco.

Much of the first half was an arm wrestle, with the Kangaroos putting loose men in the Eagles forward line. West Coast was determined to match the extra numbers, ultimately clogging their attacking zone for much of the opening term." [1]

The Age[]

"Whether it was the giant ruckman Dean Cox around the ground, or Chad Fletcher in the middle, Michael Braun on a wing, or the creativeness of goalsneak Matera in the forward line and the elegance of Wirrpunda in defence, the Eagles had a general and a response for every occasion.

The Eagles had appeared to blow the game apart in the third quarter. They had absorbed the pressure of the Kangaroos in the opening half but had always shown they were the superior side with their speed and cleaner disposal. They had kicked six goals and looked to have put a huge hole in the Roos' spirit.

The Eagles had appeared too quick for the Kangaroos all over the ground. They were able to run down the Roos time and again last night and use their better leg speed to create open space in what generally was a crowded and congested match."[2]
