West Coast recorded its biggest score at Subiaco and handed Carlton a 116-point thrashing, the Blues' biggest loss in the club's history (to that time - the record would be broken by the end of the season). By halftime the Eagles had cracked the ton and amassed an unbeatable 70 point lead, and although the Blues were able to stem the flow slightly in the third quarter, it was all West Coast in the final term as they piled on seven goals to two to push the final margin into record territory. On a day when the Eagles had winners in virtually every position, Chris Judd stood out with 33 possessions, 9 clearances and 3 goals, Phil Matera kicked 6 goals and Andrew Embley added 5.
