From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The Eagles' pacy midfield brigade kept the pressure on the Bombers all day. With captain Ben Cousins well tagged early by Damien Peverill, it was left to David Wirrpunda and Chad Fletcher to do the damage.

Rookie Chris Judd used his pace to carry the ball through the lines and veteran Drew Banfield was also very effective early in his tagging job on Jason Johnson, putting the classy Bomber under pressure.

Realistically, the Eagles should have had the game sewn up at half-time had it not been for Hird's efforts and some atrocious kicking at goal.

In the windy conditions, the Eagles saw five shots at goal before half-time sail out on the full and another two hit the post."[1]
