West Coast were celebrating the 250th game of captain Guy McKenna, the first Eagle to reach the milestone, but Richmond spoiled the party with an upset win. The visitors led at halftime but managed just three goals in the second half, and were unable to contain Tigers spearhead Matthew Richardson who kicked half a dozen goals. McKenna was his side's best with 25 touches and Drew Banfield added 24 and 8 clearances.

From the papers[]

The Sunday Age[]

"Michael Braun, Chad Morrison and Drew Banfield had wrested control of the midfield, and Andrew Donnelly and Scott Cummings were providing winning targets up forward, Cummings kicking three goals before the main break.

But when West Coast appeared to have Richmond backed into a corner, the Tigers came out fighting. Campbell blew Banfield away with 13 possessions, Nick Daffy and Knights lifted and Darren Gaspar and Aaron James combined to block the Eagles' scoring. Gaspar completely blanketed Mitchell White while James kept Cummings kickless for the third term.

Richmond's five-goal-to-one third quarter stole back the lead. It then kicked the first three goals of the last for a 28-point lead, and held on to win by 29.[1]
