From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Heady and the effervescent pair Peter Wilson and Karl Langdon, provided all the forward line aggression West Coast needed for West Coast to dominate up forward, leaving the Saints' skipper, Danny Frawley, with the almost single-handed task of arresting the onslaught.

Frawley, in a flawless eclipse of Sumich, gained stout support from Russell Morris at centre half-back and Nathan Burke, who outplayed the dangerous Peter Matera.

But the midfield control established by West Coast through Craig Turley, Dwayne Lamb, Chris Waterman and Dean Kemp, was too much for the Saints' defence to endure, and deprived Lockett and big-marking Stewart Loewe, at centre half-forward, the opportunities to seriously challenge the Eagles' early ascendancy.

Loewe was well held by rising young Eagle Glen Jakovich."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"In a match watched by a record Perth AFL crowd of 42,209, the Eagles burst into action from the opening bounce with seven goals in 22 minutes.

West Coast half forward Brett Heady was the most destructive Eagle with five goals in the quarter and joined ruck-rover Craig Turley and Guy McKenna in a match-winning onslaught.

The Eagles successfully countered the St Kilda runners, and thus cut the ball supply to dangerous forward Tony Lockett, by kicking deep into attack instead of establishing their usual running play from centre bounces.

Turley was outstanding at midfield with brilliant disposal and the 25-year-old provided the difference between the two teams in the first half."[2]
