2 S.Menegola (GEE)
1 T.Stengle (GEE)
A much-improved effort by West Coast couldn't end their record losing streak, falling by three goals to Geelong. The Eagles dominated patches of play, with four straight goals to end the second term seeing the two sides dead even at half-time, but some clinical finishing by Geelong, coupled with some confusing umpiring decisions, clinched the match for the finals-bound Cats. Jack Redden had seven tackles and six clearances, both team-highs, to go with his 24 possessions and the returning Elliot Yeo had 22 touches in a backline role.

Quarter by quarter[]
West Coast were forced into a late change with Nelson earning a reprieve, coming in for his 100th game in place of an ill Kelly. Forecast heavy rain stayed away, with the match played in fine but chilly conditions.
From the coach[]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"When Jack Darling marked on the defensive side of the wing early in the second quarter, all of his instincts would have demanded kicking the ball down the line. Instead, he looked into the centre of the ground where Dom Sheed, Andrew Gaff, Jack Redden and Brady Hough were all screaming for the ball.
Darling’s kick was intercepted by Brad Close and it took little time for the Cats to get the ball inside 50 where Jeremy Cameron marked and kicked the goal.
The Eagles paid a price for the error, but the intent was there.
There is absolutely no way the Eagles would have previously been happy with Elliot Yeo’s decision during the second term to play on after marking at the top of Geelong’s goal square, run down the spine, take a bounce and then handball.
But that audacious decision got the Eagles an inside 50 which led to three consecutive stoppages before Kennedy kicked a goal."[1]
The Age[]
"The Eagles lost a little shape behind the ball after that, which the Cats exploited in a third-quarter burst.
They swiftly opened up another four-goal lead, Stengle again prominent, turning Tom Barrass inside-out on a wing to help set up Isaac Smith, and kicking his third goal shortly after from a tight angle.
Jamie Cripps kept the Eagles in touch with a late third-quarter goal, but it was a margin they were unable to breach, despite having the better of Geelong for much of the last quarter, at least in territory.
It was a valiant effort, but the Cats had more guns and more class when it counted. It wasn’t their most convincing win of the season, but they’ll take the four points happily, as they consolidate their hold on yet another top four finish."[2]
Reserves[]
Round 9 (18 June)
West Coast remained winless, falling to Subiaco at Perth Stadium in a curtain-raiser to the AFL clash. The Eagles gave the reigning premiers a scare, narrowing the margin to eight points during the third term, but ultimately couldn't stay with the Lions, falling by 28 points. Josh Rotham impressed in an unfamiliar ruck role with 21 disposals and 20 hitouts, and Jai Culley took another step towards a senior debut with 20 touches and five tackles.
