West Coast were lethargic early and trailed by as much as six goals during the third term before finally finding a spark and storming back at the home-town Swans. It came too late, as the final siren sounded with a worried Sydney still ahead by 8 points. Daniel Kerr led the comeback and finished with four goals from 23 disposals, and the in-form Ashley Sampi kicked two critical goals to give the Eagles hope.

From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The game looked beyond the Eagles when O'Loughlin copped a knee in the back and left the field late in the third quarter.

But the Eagles produced their best patch to string together three late third-quarter goals to Chris Judd, Daniel Kerr and Ashley Sampi, cutting the lead to 20 points at the last change.

Sampi added a fourth in a row (his second successive goal) within a minute of the restart to give the Eagles real hope.

But O'Loughlin had not finished. A leaping mark on the lead in front of Chick midway through the last term, followed by his sixth goal, gave the Swans enough breathing space to hold out a fast-finishing West Coast."[2]
