West Coast did what was necessary against the Demons in an uninspiring contest. Melbourne briefly threatened in the third term but a five-goal final quarter sealed the win for the ladder-leading Eagles. Michael Braun was best-on with 31 possessions, and Glen Jakovich controlled the backline with 24 disposals.

From the papers[]

The Age[]

"There was to be no repeat of the Demons' upset win over the Eagles in Perth last year - the only similarity between the two matches being the dominance of Jeff White in the ruck.

White, who has had an indifferent season, won 27 hit outs, but with Demon captain Todd Viney not taking his place in the side, they couldn't capitalise.

Four goals from both Scott Cummings and Phil Matera - taking their combined haul for the season to 96 - proved the difference between the two sides.

Emerging Eagles midfielder Michael Braun played arguably his best game, providing great drive with his 19 kicks and 12 handballs."[1]
