West Coast ground out a hard-fought win at the Cattery to maintain top spot. The home side had their chances to bridge the gap in the last but kicked poorly. Dean Kemp had 27 possessions and two goals and Tony Evans chimed in with four majors.

From the papers[]
The Age[]
"And while Geelong was trying to pull tricks from up its sleeve early on, Dean Kemp was quietly distributing possession after possession to a sea of eager Eagle recipients, who played the forward percentages perfectly.
None more so than tough little man Tony Evans, who from a forward- pocket gave the Cats a horrible sense of deja vu with four goals - the same number he landed in the 1992 grand final - or Chris Lewis, who Malthouse said later was so team-minded it was at times to the detriment of the team.
Not yesterday, when he had a hand in at least half-a-dozen West Coast goals with tremendous vision and the sort of skills he displayed routinely a few years back.
There was key support when it mattered in the shape of Ashley McIntosh, who made light work of Leigh Colbert then Barry Stoneham at centre half-forward.
And, then there was Glen Jakovich, who managed to give the Eagles a bit of everything while still playing at centre half-back. He thrashed Stoneham early, picking up 11 possessions in the first quarter alone, and maintained his workrate all day. He finished with 24 touches, 10 marks, and a wall-like presence every time he went near the ball that, on this day at least, even Ablett couldn't match."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"Ablett helping the home side to a 10 point lead midway through the first term.
But West Coast soon began to settle when Glen Jakovich began taking Barry Stoneham apart at centre half-forward.
Jakovich, who failed to see out the previous weekend's loss to Collingwood because of a shoulder injury, was unhindered yesterday. He completely outplayed Stoneham who is now desperately short of confidence after an injury interrupted start to the season"[2]
