From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Adrian Gleeson roved better as the match went on, his hard running, and that of teammates Brent Heaver, Fraser Brown, Craig Bradley, Williams, Matthew Hogg and Brett Sholl on a wing, overwhelming the polished Eagles runners. Sholl was particularly damaging at centre bounces, sending the ball forward nine times.

Williams shrugged off the tag of Eagles veteran Dwayne Lamb. It was fitting that his third goal gave Carlton the lead for the final time 23 minutes into the last quarter.

While the Blues' rooms were buzzing with the club's resurgence, the Eagles were pondering their third home-ground loss this year. With top spot beckoning, the reigning premier could not overhaul Carlton in the dying minutes.

Misses by Troy Ugle and Peter Sumich in the final term were costly and the Eagles now have a bye to contemplate what might have been."[1]
