At a chilly Canberra, West Coast's star-studded midfield lowered their colours to their Kangaroo opponents as the Eagles slumped to 11th on the ladder with finals looking a distant prospect. The visitors managed to keep pace for a half before North broke the game open with a five-goal burst in the third quarter. Chad Fletcher worked hard for 18 possessions and 5 tackles and Phil Matera kicked three goals in his 150th game.

From the papers[]

The Age[]

"In a match that was ultimately settled by 33 points, Harvey's four majors were much more than just a bonus. The first was a neat snap from the boundary, courtesy of a bizarre out-of-bounds-on-the-full decision against the Eagles after six minutes. The second came after he gave his first opponent Michael Braun the slip 15 minutes later.

But it was Harvey's role in the Kangaroos' matchwinning five-minute burst early in the third term - which yielded four goals - that was most devastating.

Daniel Kerr, beaten in midfield by Michael Firrito, was the unfortunate soul sent to mind the lively Harvey in the goal square at the start of the second half.

Two quick goals to Sav Rocca and Leigh Brown had the Eagles 27 points behind and on their knees, before Harvey delivered the knockout blow. His two goals in just over 90 seconds destroyed West Coast's hopes of a victory, and possibly ended its finals hopes."[1]

Players in the WAFL[]

There was a general bye in the WAFL as a state representative side played Victoria at Leederville Oval. Rudeforth appeared for the home side.
