Birthday boy Ben Cousins ran rampant in the first quarter as West Coast built up an early lead, then held on as the Crows mounted a final-quarter comeback that saw them narrow the margin to just two goals. Cousins finished with 33 possessions and second-gamer Quinten Lynch proved a handful in attack with 5 goals.

From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Cousins set up the Eagles' seventh win at home this year with a magnificent first quarter, in which he collected 16 possessions and kicked two goals.

The game looked all over when the Eagles led by 45 points two minutes into the third term. But John Worsfold's team had to pull out all stops to get home against the never-say-die Crows.

Adelaide kicked nine goals in the last quarter to get within 12 points in the dying minutes. The game was finally put out of the Crows' reach when hulking rookie Quinten Lynch, 19, playing in just his second AFL game, kicked his fifth goal with less than two minutes to play.

It was a bitter, if not unexpected, result for the fourth-placed Crows, who then had to listen to more than 30,000 West Coast fans sing a rendition of happy birthday to Cousins."[1]
